Frameless Shower Screens — Designed for Your Bathroom

A frameless shower enclosure is the single most impactful upgrade you can make to a bathroom. By eliminating the bulky aluminium frames of traditional shower screens, you create a clean, open aesthetic that makes even compact bathrooms feel larger and more luxurious.

At Howick Glass, we specialise in custom frameless shower screens and enclosures for East Auckland homes. Every screen is templated on-site and manufactured to the exact dimensions of your bathroom — no compromise, no filler strips, no gaps.

We offer a range of configurations including walk-in showers, corner enclosures, sliding and pivot door options, and over-bath screens. All use 10mm or 12mm toughened safety glass with quality hardware in stainless steel, matte black, or brushed nickel finishes.

Benefits of a Frameless Shower Screen

    Makes Bathrooms Feel Larger

No frames or rails means your eye travels through the glass, making any bathroom feel bigger and airier.

    Easy to Clean

No frames means no grout lines or aluminium channels to harbour soap scum and mould.

    Timeless Aesthetics

Frameless glass is a classic look that won't date — unlike aluminium-framed screens that show their age quickly.

    Fully Custom

Every screen is measured and manufactured specifically for your bathroom — no off-the-shelf compromises.

    Safe & Durable

Toughened safety glass is extremely strong and, if broken, breaks into safe small pieces.

    Frameless Shower Screen Types

There are several frameless shower configurations we can install depending on your bathroom layout:

    Walk-In Shower Screens

A single fixed panel (or two panels in an L-shape) that defines the shower space without a door. Ideal for open-plan bathrooms and wet rooms. No door means minimal hardware and maximum openness.

    Pivot Door Enclosures

A fixed side panel with a pivoting door — the most popular frameless shower configuration for standard alcove or corner showers. The door pivots from a top-and-bottom pivot point, with a clean single-point handle.

    Sliding Door Screens

Where space is limited and a swinging door is impractical, a frameless sliding door screen provides a practical solution. Hardware-minimised sliding systems give a near-frameless appearance.

    Over-Bath Screens

A fixed or hinged panel fitted to the edge of a bath to contain water during showering. Available in standard and custom sizes.

    Glass Thickness

Frameless shower screens are typically 10mm or 12mm toughened glass. 10mm is standard for most residential installations; 12mm is used for larger panels or where extra rigidity is required.

What to Consider When Choosing a Frameless Shower Screen

Before installing a frameless shower screen, there are a few practical considerations worth discussing with your glazier:

    Wall & Floor Substrate

Frameless shower screens are fixed to the wall (and sometimes floor) via brackets and channels. It’s important that the tiles and substrate behind them are sound and properly waterproofed before installation. Any remediation should be completed before the glass goes in.

    Door Swing Direction

Think about how the door will open in relation to the rest of the bathroom. A pivot door that swings into a vanity or toilet will be frustrating daily. We’ll advise on the best swing direction at the measure stage.

    Hardware Finish

Your shower hardware should complement your bathroom tapware and accessories. We supply hardware in polished stainless, satin stainless, matte black, brushed gold and other finishes on request.

    Glass Coating Options

We can supply glass with a protective easy-clean coating applied during manufacture. This hydrophobic coating repels water and soap residue, making the glass dramatically easier to maintain — particularly recommended in hard-water areas of Auckland.

    FAQ

    Frameless Shower FAQs

Frameless shower screen pricing in NZ typically ranges from $900–$2,500+ installed depending on configuration, size, and hardware. A standard alcove pivot door enclosure is generally around $1,200–$1,800 installed. Contact us for a free quote.

Most frameless shower screens are installed in 2–4 hours. We ask that tiling is fully complete and silicone/grout has cured before we install the screen. A bathroom is typically available for use within a few hours of installation once the silicone seals have cured.

Yes, silicone sealant is applied along all contact edges between the glass and the wall/floor during installation. This creates a watertight seal. We apply quality neutral-cure silicone in clear or matching colours. Silicone should be inspected and replaced every 5–10 years as part of bathroom maintenance.

Yes, this is one of the most common jobs we do. We remove the existing framed screen, clean up the substrate, and install a new custom frameless screen. In some cases the existing wall fixings can be reused; in others, new fixing points are required. We'll advise at the quoting stage.

No, installing or replacing a shower screen does not require a building consent in New Zealand.
