Glass Splashbacks
Custom toughened glass splashbacks in any colour for East Auckland kitchens and bathrooms. Seamless, hygienic, and stunning.
Custom Glass Splashbacks for Auckland Kitchens & Bathrooms
A glass splashback is one of the most striking and practical upgrades you can make to a kitchen or bathroom. Unlike tile splashbacks — which have grout lines that collect grease and bacteria — a glass splashback is a single seamless panel that is completely hygienic and effortless to wipe clean.
At Howick Glass, we supply and install custom toughened glass splashbacks in virtually any colour. Using the Resene colour system, we can match your glass splashback to any paint colour in your home — your kitchen cabinetry, your island bench, your feature wall, or any other element you want to complement or contrast.
All our splashbacks are manufactured from 6mm toughened safety glass with the colour applied to the back of the glass (digital print or painted), creating a deep, rich colour that is protected by the glass and will never chip, peel or fade.

Glass Splashback Options & Finishes
We offer several glass splashback options to suit different budgets and design goals:
Painted Glass Splashbacks
The colour is applied to the back of the glass using a specialist paint system. This is the most popular and cost-effective option and produces a smooth, consistent colour. Available in any Resene colour.
Digital Print Splashbacks
A photographic or graphic image is digitally printed onto the back of the glass — ideal for feature splashbacks with a landscape, abstract, or custom graphic design. The options are virtually unlimited.
Clear Glass Splashbacks
A clear glass panel fitted over an existing tile splashback — typically used when tiles are dated but the structure behind them is sound. A cost-effective way to refresh the look without a full re-tile.
Mirror Splashbacks
A mirror finish splashback — particularly popular in smaller kitchens — creates depth and reflects light to make the space feel larger.
Glass Thickness
Most residential splashbacks use 6mm toughened glass, which is the minimum recommended behind a cooktop. For larger panels or island benches, 8mm or 10mm may be specified for additional rigidity.
Glass Splashback Installation in East Auckland
Glass splashback installation requires more precision than most homeowners realise. A few key considerations:
Power Points & Switches
Any power points, switches, or gas hob connections that fall within the splashback area must be templated exactly and cut into the glass before toughening. Once the glass is toughened it cannot be cut — so precision at the templating stage is critical. Our glaziers are experienced at templating around complex joinery layouts.
Behind-Cooktop Requirements
If your splashback is directly behind a gas or electric cooktop, the glass must be toughened to handle heat. Standard 6mm toughened glass is rated for domestic cooktop temperatures. We do not recommend installing mirror or digital print splashbacks directly behind a gas hob due to heat sensitivity of the backing material.
Edge Finishing
All exposed edges are ground and polished smooth. For a premium finish, edges can be pencil-polished or bevelled. All perimeter joints between the glass and the wall or cabinetry are sealed with neutral-cure silicone in a matching colour.
Lead Time
Allow 7–14 days from templating to installation for custom-coloured glass splashbacks. Urgent jobs can sometimes be accommodated — call us to discuss your timeline.
