We supply standard clear mirror (4mm or 6mm), copper-free mirror (more durable backing for high-humidity bathrooms — recommended for mirrors installed behind sinks where splash is likely), and shaped mirrors with arched tops or rounded corners for decorative applications. Edge profiles: flat polish (clean, modern), pencil polish (subtle rounded edge), bevelled (decorative, traditional).
Bathroom Mirror Installation Tips
Standard installation height centres the mirror at approximately 1,550–1,650mm from the floor. Allow 150–200mm between the top of the basin and the bottom of the mirror. Correct mirror adhesive is critical — standard silicone attacks the silver coating causing black edge spots. We supplement adhesive with discrete mechanical fixings for larger mirrors. All mirrors installed by Howick Glass are properly mechanically secured.
Bathroom Mirror FAQs
Decide on your desired width (match vanity, or wall-to-wall) and height (usually 700–900mm). We can also cut to any dimension — just tell us your preferred size or bring us your bathroom measurements.
Black spots are caused by moisture attacking the silver coating on the mirror back — accelerated by incorrect adhesive and inadequate edge sealing. We use correct adhesive and seal all edges to prevent this.
Most bathroom mirrors are ready within 2–5 working days. Standard sizes are often faster.
Smaller mirrors can be installed by a confident DIYer using correct mirror adhesive (not standard silicone). For larger mirrors, professional installation is recommended — a heavy mirror detaching from a wall is a serious safety hazard.
